What is the most durable countertop?

Building or remodeling a home is exciting, and countertops are a huge part of your kitchen. Choosing between the different types of countertops can be difficult, but educating yourself on the different options will help you to make that decision.

Choosing Granite Countertops Denver is the most durable choice. Not only is there an option for natural granite, but there is also engineered granite which is somewhat new to the industry. Both of these options are very strong, but engineered granite is scratch-resistant. They are a lot cheaper which can be helpful if you have a lower budget for your home.

Another durable option is Quartz. These countertops are durable because they are made from crushed quartz crystals. They are bonded together with an adhesive called polymer resin. Quartz is nice because you can mix it with any color to your liking. It does not absorb anything because it is non-porous and requires no sealing.  Quartz is similar in appearance to granite and marble, but it is not exactly as durable as these types of countertops. Despite this, it is beautiful and is often made from recycled materials which makes it have a low carbon footprint.

Although somewhat of a new idea, concrete countertops are often implemented as a modern option, concrete can come in multiple colors, but it does have some caveats. It is porous which means it needs to be sealed often and also maintained. This is because it can stain easily. You may notice visible seams, which can be filled in, but still will not make them incredibly durable.

Solid Surfaces

Made from a solid surface of mineral dust such as marble, also mixed with a variety of plastic resins and pigments. This type of countertop is very durable but not usually as attractive as other options. The main draw to this type of countertop is that they look almost seamless and are available in any color or pattern you could want. They are resistant to both mold and mildew and are easy to clean. One of the main downsides is that they can scratch or cut easily.

What is Best for You?

The most durable material would be quartz or granite, but there are also good options as well. Look into what your home needs, if you have children, if you plan to put hot objects on it, and if there may be water nearby. This can help you make the right decision for your home, not necessarily based on what is the most durable countertop.
